A potentially picture perfect August long-weekend is upon us – if you enjoy warm temperatures and late day thunderstorms.

For holiday goers heading out Friday, the weekend may kickoff with a bit of a bang.

There is a possibility of some severe thunderstorms moving through the area late in the day Friday that may make for an electrifying evening in parts of central Saskatchewan.

Keeping an eye to the sky and online for watches and warnings would be wise for those heading out early for their weekend adventures.

You will want to remain rain ready through the long weekend as there is a chance of thunderstorms all three days.

Some areas may see some fog patches lingering through the early morning hours Saturday through Monday, especially if rain injects excess moisture into the environment anytime through the weekend.

Temperatures during the day will remain quite warm with temperatures in the mid-20s and with the humidex at times will feel near 30 in some areas.

Overnight lows should stick in the low to mid teens through the weekend, making for fairly comfortable sleeping conditions.

For those hoping to soak in some sun, current trends are shaping up to show Monday to be the sunniest, while Saturday should start sunny with clouds rolling in later in the day.

Sunday is looking to be the cloudiest and possibly the wettest day of the weekend with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies expected and a chance of scattered showers and thundershowers.

There are definitely a few must haves to bring along if heading outdoors for any period of time over the three-day stretch.

First off, be sure to pack along some sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays that will remain high through the weekend as at such sun intensities, a sunburn can occur in a matter of minutes.

Remember re-apply sunscreen after entering the water, being outside for an extended period of time or following any strenuous activity.

Also, even though a light breeze can be expected for most of the weekend, don’t forget to bring bug spray, especially if outside in the morning or evening hours, when insects like to feast.
